The CABA Smash will be played on the court on Alex Wadsworth’s property in Lutz. The entire family is involved with pickleball.

The Carrollwood Area Business Association is jumping aboard the pickleball wagon. The CABA Smash is slated for March 20 on the property of member Alex Wadsworth.

The Lutz homeowner, co-founder of Pickle Man, Inc., has hosted a handful of tournaments since building a court in the spring 2023. The Wednesday date coincides with CABA’s After 5 events.

“I want to help CABA and (members) realize that supporting pickleball tournaments, and the sport as a whole, could be good for the businesses,” Wadsworth said.

Co-hosts for the inaugural tourney are ADT Security’s Rob Cunningham, Quint Bodine with Heartland Payroll & HR, Vicki Anderson of KDC Outfitters and Primerica’s Bryan & Melinda Turner.

Anderson, who is among the CABA members planning to play in the tourney, picked up the sport nearly a year ago while visiting her brother in The Villages. Now she plays once a week.

“It’s neat what he does,” Anderson said of Wadsworth hosting tourneys.

More than 50 small business from the community will be represented at the CABA Smash.

“We’ll see how people respond to it,” Wadsworth said. “I hope that the small businesses that come out realize that (pickleball) is easy to watch, easy to play and easy to learn.”

Aside from Anderson and the Turners, other CABA members playing in the tourney will be Lee Pierson, Gary Ivanov and Bodine.
