For a second straight year, All Florida Pickleball partnered with Minor League Pickleball, DUPR and the Florida Smash for a fundraising tournament at the G.T. Bray
Recreation Center in Bradenton.
Last year’s event, the Tampa Showdown, drew more than 150 players, with proceeds benefiting youth programs in Hillsborough County. This year’s March Against MS drew 148 players, who helped raise funds for multiple sclerosis.
The beneficiary hits close to home for David Tabb, a cofounder of All Florida Pickleball who was diagnosed with MS early in 2023.
“It was great to see players (who) played in the event last year and how they have improved, as well as seeing new faces playing and supporting the cause,” Tabb said.
All Florida Pickleball aims to make the minor league competition an annual event at the covered outdoor courts in Bradenton.
“We’re hoping we can do it every year,” Tabb said. “The facility is really built for the team environment and they have a community that loves pickleball.”
The event served as a buildup for the All Florida Pro League, with combines beginning in May followed by league play in June. Scouts were on hand at G.T. Bray to
watch players in pressure situations.
