In its never-ending quest to promote the increasingly popular sport, All Florida Pickleball is forming a professional pickleball league with competitors vying for portions of a $15,000 prize pool.

Eight teams of four players will be formed, with the initial All Florida Pro League season scheduled from May-October. The statewide program will include five regular-season tournaments with playoffs and championships at an undetermined location next fall.

Locally, there will be stops at the Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club in Seminole, G.T. Bray Park in Bradenton and Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland. Other series will be played in various parts of the state.

“It really comes from wanting to showcase the high level of talent that Florida has,” said David Tabb, co-owner of All Florida Pickleball along with Chris Crouch and Martin Michelsen. “Our dream is to see one of those players go on to the pro tours.”

A combine will take place March 16 at the Lakeland club with a draft to fill out rosters not long afterward. Florida residents must be in the 3.0-5.0 range, successful in tournaments, ranked high in their classes and involved in their respective communities. There is no age limit.

“Our whole mission is to promote pickleball as an asset,” Tabb said.

Community events will include clinics and pro-ams. For more information about the upcoming league, visit allfloridapickleball.com.
