Of the half-dozen tournaments hosted by so far, none had a kids division.

The most recent one did.

Youth doubles for players 15-and-under gave boys and girls their own divisions to compete in as part of the Spinner Law Invitational. In all, 20 kids played in 12-and-under and 13-15 age groups on the outdoor courts at the Land O’Lakes Recreation Complex.

Kiera Little, who oversees a youth program at the Christian Church in Wildwood in Weeki Wachee, brought several youngsters. Among them were her four home-schooled children — Isabella, 12; Zoe, 10; Ezri, 9; and 7-year-old Avery.

The youngest three, however, just came out for support. Only Isabella could play in the tourney since the minimum age was 11. She was joined by her cousin Rankin, the 12-year-old son of Little’s sister, Kailey Walkup.

“I feel like up until this point (tournaments have) been geared for adults,” Little said. “This is the first time they’re getting to be part of the tournament experience. It’s a great sport; fun for all generations.”

The invitational was not the first Tampa Bay area tourney to include a kids division. Pickle Man Inc. tourneys, played on the property of Lutz homeowner Alex Wadsworth, has scheduled kids divisions in three tourneys so far this year.
